Prof. Kwanphil Cho is an architect, educator, and researcher with extensive international experience in advanced architectural design, urban strategy, and future city projects.
Before joining Handong Global University, he worked for more than a decade at Zaha Hadid Architects, contributing to complex architectural and urban projects across different scales and regions.
His experience with landmark architecture, parametric design, and smart city-related future urban visions led him to critically examine the limits of optimisation-led urbanism: standardisation, placelessness, platform dependency, and the weakening of civic and territorial meaning.
From this reflection, he initiated the Wise Town Framework as a post-Smart City proposition: a place-based, wisdom-oriented, and territorially grounded approach to cities and regions.
